Shimenawa

Shimenawa or enclosing rope in English translation is a rope made out of braided rice straws and used to bound a sacred space. It’s commonly found tied around very old trees that grow near the shrines. It is a form of ritual purification in the Shinto religion.

I have been always interested in a Japanese shrine. It’s simplicity and serenity. I like how it is built to look like and feel like it is one with nature.
